Hello there! My name is Megan.
I’m a lover of cats, cookies, and avocado toast. I am the head recipe developer, photographer, and blogger here at Meg ‘n Matcha. Here you will delicious and indulgent recipes for snacks and sweets. I love making treats that are secretly healthy and that also fit a variety of diets, including paleo, gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan. Allow me to introduce myself!
I’m 24 and I am from just outside the Milwaukee Metro area. I grew up in a very small town in Wisconsin. Wisconsin is probably where my love of food began. It truly does have its very own culture, which I really love. I love how things that are as simple as Brewer games, Summerfest, and classic Wisconsin foods can bring an incredibly diverse group of people together. Although I don’t drink beer or eat brats, I definitely indulge in my fair share of cheese curds, frozen custard, cream puffs, and Kringle once in a while.
After I graduated high school, I moved to Bloomington, Indiana for college. I got my Bachelor of Music degree in oboe performance at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. I’m so thankful for my time at IU and the friends I made there, the cat I adopted (his name is Ezra!), and the wonderful teachers I got the opportunity to work with. And I’m so grateful for the town of Bloomington! Seriously one of the most wonderful little towns with a vibrant community and incredible food. So much amazing food. Gosh, I miss all of Bloomington’s food!
In 2018 I moved to Cleveland, Ohio for graduate school. I received my Master of Music degree in May 2020 from the Cleveland Institute of Music. In Cleveland, I finished school, worked in and quit retail, became a barista, adopted another cat (Julian!), and started my soon-to-be healthy food blog.
My Health & Wellness Journey
Around March of 2017, I decided to change my life. After struggling with a chronic gut infection, PCOS, and insulin resistance for over five years, I knew I had to do something to improve my health. My plan at first was to lose weight, but I have now completely changed my lifestyle. I learn the basics of nutrition, to view movement as an act of love rather than a punishment, and discovered my love for creating nourishing meals. I learned the value wellness and self-care, and I want to share my journey with my readers. I’ve struggled with my weight literally since birth and, honestly, still do. But holistic wellness involves more than the physical body. It’s all about treating your mind, body, and spirit with care and respect. And anyone can learn to do that!
I’ve been an avid writer my whole life, so starting a blog just felt natural. This blog exists so I can share my life and passions with my readers. I also want to show people that health and wellness is for everyone, not just people that wear Lululemon and always have a green smoothie. Making wellness an inclusive space is so important.
Becoming a Healthy Food Blog
When I first started this blog, I did not want to be a food blogger. I had no photography skills, had no idea how to develop recipes, and honestly, I just thought that having a food blog was too much freaking work (and let me tell you- it is!). As I started posting more on my Instagram, I realized that my followers always responded better to recipes and posts about food.
I’ve loved food for my entire life. I have so many memories of cooking and baking with my family when I was young. I remember making my mom’s Cream Cheese Cutout Cookies for Christmas year after year. When I started college, I became obsessed with almost every cooking show you can think of. When I got my first apartment, I would walk to the grocery store to pick up fresh ingredients almost everyday. But food, while I loved, had always been something I struggled with. I struggled with cravings and feelings of guilt when I ate a “bad” food or just ate too much. Learning how to incorporate intuitive eating has been crucial in my wellness journey, as well as preparing healthy recipes with plant-based ingredients that actually taste good!
With all of this in mind, I began to transition Meg ‘n Matcha in 2020 to being mostly a blog about food. So, I focus on creating (mostly) healthy dessert recipes that are nourishing for the body and soul. I develop lots of vegan and gluten-free recipes as well. And my biggest goal when it comes to blogging about healthy food is that these recipes actually taste good! Eating healthy isn’t a punishment, and I’m here to relieve your stress about it!
Here on my little healthy food blog, you’ll find recipes like Golden Coconut Oatmeal, Marinated & Baked Tofu, and so many more delicious healthy recipes you’ll want to make over and over again- with a few indulgent ones occasionally mixed in, because life is all about balance!
Thanks for visiting my little baby healthy food blog and making it this far! I’m excited for you to read my content and get to know me. And I’m excited to get to know you all too! Let’s be friends.
